Riot Noise & Mucky Weekender Launch a Game-Changing DJ Opportunity — Warming Up for Norman Jay MBE on a Festival Main Stage.

“We’re excited to be teaming up with Barry Ashworth & Mucky Weekender for this opportunity – it’s a perfect fit for our mission to champion emerging talent and create real pathways into the industry. We share the same values when it comes to community, creativity, and giving new artists a proper platform.” Ronnie Traynor  (Riot Noise).

Riot Noise has teamed up with Mucky Weekender Festival to give one unknown DJ an opportunity of a lifetime…. The chance to warm up for none other than Norman Jay MBE on their brand-new main stage named Riot Noise, a fully customised 7.5-tonne truck and mobile DJ booth on Thursday 11th September

This isn’t your average DJ competition. It’s not even a competition in the traditional sense. This is a real opportunity, a platform — paid, supported, designed by established music industry veterans at Riot Noise, offering an undiscovered DJ, a spotlight slot, on a festival main stage, to play a set directly before the legendary Norman Jay MBE.

The winner will be awarded £100 for the 20-minute set, the guest mix will feature on the Riot Noise Radio Show and broadcasted to an audience of music lovers across the UK and beyond, plus a weekend festival pass to Mucky Weekender.

So, if you’re a DJ who’s been waiting for a break — or you know someone who is — this is it. Tag them and follow @riotnoise @muckyweekender for news and updates.

How to Apply:

Aspiring DJs must submit a 20-minute mix to SoundCloud showcasing their ability to warm up for Mr. Good Times himself, the set must feature a blend of soul, disco, house, acid jazz and any uplifting feel-good tunes in-between.

**Upload a brand new 20-minutes house music to SoundCloud.

**Head to https://riotnoise.com/pages/opportunities

**Fill in the short form and drop your SoundCloud link.

Submissions will be reviewed by Barry Ashworth (Dub Pistols frontman and Mucky Weekender founder) plus a panel of Riot Noise industry veterans.

Terms & Conditions: Submissions close 12pm, 11th June 2025. Winner announced 18th June. You must be 18+ and able to travel to/from Mucky Weekender on September 11th. We’ll pay you £100 for your set. We’ll cover your entry + guest pass (weekend). (Travel/accommodation not included.) This opportunity is in no way sponsored or endorsed by Meta.

Why This Matters:

This initiative is part of Riot Noise’s wider mission: to empower emerging DJs, producers, and musicians by giving them real-world opportunities and long-term support.

Founded by music industry players Ronnie Traynor, Nicky Maciocia, and Ben Johnson, Riot Noise is a UK-based social enterprise offering everything from mentoring and tour support to writing camps and mental health advocacy.https://riotnoise.com/

The Riot Noise Truck — where this opportunity takes place — is more than a stage. It’s a symbol of what Riot Noise calls “circular artistry” – artists who are lifted-up early in their journey, then pay it forward to support the next wave.

In 2025, the Truck becomes the official second stage at Mucky Weekender Festival, hosting new up and coming talent side by side with icons such as Stanton Warriors, Leeroy Thornhill, A Skillz, Plump DJs, Krafty Kuts, Freestylers, 2 Bad Mice, Woody Cook, Chris Hawkins (6Music) and of course Norman Jay MBE.
