Southampton’s live music scene was treated to a vibrant celebration of dub, ska, reggae and party-fuelled grooves last weekend as the Mucky Weekender All-Dayer transformed The Brook into one of the friendliest and most uplifting events the city has seen so far this year.

From the moment doors opened, the atmosphere around the venue felt warm, welcoming and genuinely inclusive. Music fans of all ages gathered together to enjoy an expertly curated line-up packed with infectious rhythms, positive energy and top-tier live performances. The event captured everything that makes independent music culture special — community spirit, incredible musicianship and a crowd united by a love of good music.

One of the standout features of the day was the newly revamped outdoor garden area at The Brook. The addition has given the much-loved Southampton venue an even more social and relaxed feel, allowing gig-goers space to unwind between sets while still soaking up the atmosphere. The garden quickly became a buzzing hub throughout the day, filled with laughter, conversations and anticipation for the next act. Combined with The Brook’s excellent sound quality, friendly staff and intimate layout, it once again proved why the venue remains one of the South Coast’s best places to experience live music.

Musically, the day delivered from start to finish.

Headliners Dub Pistols were nothing short of phenomenal. Bringing their trademark fusion of ska, dub, jungle, reggae and punk-infused party energy, the band turned The Brook into a full-scale festival atmosphere within minutes.

Their sets were explosive, uplifting and brilliantly tight throughout, balancing massive dancefloor moments with the kind of crowd interaction that makes live music unforgettable. The audience response said it all — constant dancing, huge singalongs and wall-to-wall smiles from front to back.

What makes Dub Pistols so enduring is their ability to blend rave culture with live musicianship, and this performance showcased exactly why they continue to be one of the UK’s most beloved live acts. Their energy never dipped for a second, closing the night on an enormous high.

Dub royalty Prince Fatty delivered a performance packed with rich dub textures, heavyweight basslines and beautifully crafted reggae grooves.

Prince Fatty’s sound felt perfectly suited to the laid-back but vibrant atmosphere of the event. The performance balanced classic influences with modern production flair, creating a hypnotic groove that kept the crowd swaying throughout. Every track sounded huge through The Brook’s sound system, with deep bass and crisp instrumentation filling the venue effortlessly. INSANE IN THE BRAIN!

Kaya Fyah also impressed massively with a high-energy performance full of positivity and charisma. Bringing infectious reggae and jungle rhythms and incredibly glamourous, commanding stage presence, Kaya Fyah connected instantly with the audience and kept the energy levels soaring.

The crowd response throughout the set reflected the inclusive spirit of the entire event — strangers dancing together, smiling faces everywhere and a genuine sense of togetherness that carried through the whole day.

What elevated the Mucky Weekender All-Dayer beyond simply being another gig was its atmosphere. There was a real sense of community running throughout the event, with fans, performers and staff all contributing to a welcoming and friendly environment that felt refreshingly authentic.

In an era where many events can feel overly commercialised, this all-dayer captured the grassroots magic of live music perfectly. Excellent performances, a superb venue, fantastic sound and a crowd united by positivity made it one of Southampton’s most memorable music events of the year so far.

If this is a sign of what future Mucky Weekender events at The Brook will look like, Southampton music fans have plenty to look forward to. And now, we’re looking forward to Mucky Weekender 2026 even more.
