I have to challenge some of the thinking here and I have to confess I am not a Rich Tea fan, the one biscuit I can leave, in fact I cannot stand the Rich Tea, it’s bland, it doesn’t dunk well and it’s just meh…
For me it has to be the Jam Sandwich Cream, with the shortbread based outer biscuit it stands up to the slightly longer soaking time needed to warm up the jam. When compared with the Jammie Dodger, the same dunking period would result in serious biscuit degradation due to it’s more porous properties. When you also factor in the vanilla creme which acts as glue, it’s this overall superior construction that ensures a much improved structural integrity of the biscuit needed for the perfect dunking experience.
I’d also like to highlight the chocolate finger straw technique. Nibble both ends of the finger, then suck up the tea until it’s just about to hit your mouth and then eat the finger. It’s the perfect level of moist dunkiness, still maintains structural integrity and the chocolate is warmed but not melted…
However I also have to suggest a few amendments to the digestive / oat based suggestions made here… let’s be clear here, the Dark Chocolate HobNob is far superior to chocolate digestive. Go with a plain sweetmeal digestive or a chocolate Hobnob, I’d argue the chocolate digestive should be consumed dry and rinsed down with tea rather than dunking, however it’s also worth a dunk.
One last tip, have two cups of tea, one for dunking and one for drinking, that way should you have any biscuit related incidents it’s no major issue, than again the final dregs left over after absorbing your tea into your biscuits is also pretty darn good.
